To celebrate a busy year of hen party fun & to say Goodbye to our Glam Hatter Girl Astri, I took The Glam Hatter Girls out for dinner.
I wanted to thank the girls for all their amazing work this year at our hen parties and also to say a fond farewell to one of our very special GHGs, Astri who is emigrating to Canada. (Our loss is Canada’s gain.)
We had a lovely time – we always do, usually we spend time together because we are hosting hen parties. We all love teaching fascinator workshops but it doesn’t leave much time for chatting! However we always have a cup of tea and a scone together after the parties (I always order extra!) and have mini catch ups that way. So this was a nice way to get together and say Goodbye to Astri. Our Glam Hatter Girl Bobbie was in Vietnam on hols – here’s the “Glam Hatter Girl Forever” goodbye that she sent.
During dinner Astri thanked me for giving her a chance to be a Glam Hatter Girl and I was so moved. I’ve always felt privileged to have had some of the most amazing women want to come and work with me to make a team of Glam Hatter Girls. Without these girls I wouldn’t have a business and I am so proud of them all.
We all toasted Astri and her new adventure, we are going to miss her so much but we’re so excited to see her next step on her journey and her new adventure. Glam Hatter Girl Clara then asked me, “How do you choose us Janie, we’re all so diverse?” and I said, “It’s just a feeling I get. But actually you’re all really similar and I feel so lucky to have found you. I interview a lot of people and you guys are the best.”
I was slightly confused by Clara’s question and I think she was confused by my answer. And then I looked around the table and realised what she meant by diverse. We are like a united nations of milliners, we look a bit like a Benetton ad! Our nationalities include, English, Indonisian, Swedish, Persian/Swedish, Welsh, Turkish, Cypriot, Scottish and we have every colour skin, hair and eyes in our gang! But honestly up until that point I hadn’t realised we “looked” diverse. All my Glam Hatter Girls have the same attitude and it’s this…
“We work hard and have fun while we’re doing it. We want to give the absolute best customer service because we genuinely love our customers. Let’s face it if a bunch of girls are turning up to make hats and drink tea/sip champagne we are going to like them. We are going to like them a whole lot because that’s what us Glam Hatter Girls love to do even on our day off!!!”
Astri this post is for you. You have been so much fun, so thoughtful and super creative. You’ve made us smile, travelled all over England teaching fascinator making, visited places you’ve never been before, always had all star feedback and more than anything, you’ve been a friend to all of us. You are a Glam Hatter Girl forever. We love you, we will miss you and you will always be part of our team.
With Love & Laughter (and a little bit of sadness), Glam Hatter Girl xxx
