Hi Guys, This is a mini blog as I just had such an exciting Monday morning! My lovely friend Esther and I have been to a food tasting at The Mae Deli – brain child of Deliciously Ella. Just lately I’ve been working on my corporate packages and researching gluten free/dairy free catering options.
We will soon be launching our brand new corporate packages and so I am busy slicking out the offer which means I am running around trying out delicious food and sourcing beautiful venues, locally brewed gin and learning all about champagne – it’s a lovely way to learn! This morning was all about the food..
Esther is a foodie and I was just so happy she agreed to come with me. When she suggested doing a taste test for my corporate packages I begged her to come along – “Please don’t make me go on my own, it would be like sending me to the opera and then asking me if it was good or not!” We both agreed that we all have our talents – Esther is really, really good at food and I’m really, really good at making hats!
The guys at Deliciously Ella’s, Mae Deli arranged for us to have a very lovely tasting session in the very stylish deli – this is where we sat..
So this morning top of the taste bud pops were Deliciously Ella’s …
Red pepper hummus.
Crunchy asparagus and carrot.
Asian broccoli and Bok Choy.
Satay sweet potato.
Mae day cake.
There were a few things that I had no clue about with regards to food for corporate events. The first is that, as Ella said, “People eat with their eyes”. And actually if you check out the Deliciously Ella and the Mae Deli instagram feeds this is totally obvious! You’ve just got to look at these pictures to know that the food is going to be healthy, wholesome but most importantly, it’s going to taste delightful!
Apart from taste, other practical elements for doing corporate food the right way are, it should be easy to eat with one fork, it shouldn’t be too “flicky” – you don’t want the guests to end up wearing it on their beautiful dresses and lastly when you’ve finished, it shouldn’t be lodged between your teeth!
Thank you Deliciously Ella’s Mae Deli for a wonderful tasting and especially thank you to Esther for such practical tips and for using your foodie magic thing to put the menu together.
If you are looking for corporate entertainment and want an original team building activity please do email or call and I will be super- happy to arrange your event either at your venue anywhere in the UK or at a beautiful venue in London. You know for sure that along with a wonderful hat making workshop your guests will be fed the most gorgeous, healthy food around. With a gluten free and dairy free menu they will leave feeling energised as well as feeling creatively stimulated!
With Love & Laughter, Glam Hatter Girl.

Naked Wedding Cakes
It’s all about the naked with cakes right now and I am soooo not talking W.I. ladies on a calendar with cup cakes. I am talking huge, towering, beautiful layers of sponge with amazing fillings between each layer, decorated with fresh flowers or fruit and no, I repeat no icing.
Fab for me – I really don’t like icing – not so great for the baker. In the same way we all have our perfect, “Does my bum look big in this? Oh no it doesn’t because I’ve cleverly disguised it with my well cut, tailored dress.” So too icing does the job of covering unseemly lumps and bumps. So in effect your naked cake has to be a perfect Jennifer Aniston body of a cake. If your cake is going naked it is not to look rustic, chopped up, thrown together. No ladies it is to look sublime, beautiful and gloriously naked.
The Naked Wedding Cakes above and below are by Alana Jones Mann and she is totally loving the naked right now. So much so that every time she uploads a new one she apologises! Alana says of the cake above, “The fact that there are fresh spring blooms to be used on cakes again has me all excited – because getting to work with flowers AND cake, well that’s just two beautiful things coming together to be super beautiful – you can’t go wrong!”
I love the way Alana talks about cake, she is genuinely, absolutely in love with her job as baker and blogger and I completely relate to that as the creator of Glam hatters. I love making hats, hosting parties and setting up afternoon teas on our vintage china. Every element of my job is a part of my world that I adore. But back to Wedding Cakes and here are some more naked ones, this time by Elle’s Couture Events.
I have a weakness for words on stuff, be it inspirational quotes on beautiful images – see my instagram account, words weaved into art or in this case the use of a gorgeous font on a yummy cake. You got me lovely love cake, I have to say I do, I do, I do want to eat you!
Lastly I have to leave you with this Naked Wedding Cake complete with “Just Married” bunting from Maku.Fi. Here at Glam Hatters we adore our pink ditsy print and candy stripe bunting and use it to decorate our venues for our fascinator making, hen party workshops. When I saw this cake it just made me smile and if a cake can do that, well who needs a man. If you haven’t found your groom just yet, why not just marry this cake?!
So what do you think ladies? Love them, hate them, wanna marry them? I’d love to hear your views on Naked Wedding Cakes in the comments section below, and if you like this blog, please do share it on FB.

Last week we hosted a Gatsby Inspired Accessory Making Workshop for Emily and seven of her friends at our Exmouth Market venue in London. The girls spent a lovely 3 hours with us enjoying vintage afternoon tea and producing very on trend 1920’s Gatsby-inspired necklaces and headpieces to complement their outfits to wear to The Candle Light Club’s Summer Ball.
As well as Emily’s hen party it just so happened to be her Birthday. Jing had secretly brought along a gorgeous cake made by Paul’s Bakery to celebrate the occassion. Our Glam Hatter Girls plated it up on our vintage china cake stand, added candles and served it at the table.
During the workshop the girls received full vintage hair and make-up to make them look fabulous for the Candle Light Club. It did give the experience a beauty parlour feel as the girls carried on creating their works of art as their hair set in hairclips and rollers! This is Alex she’s responsible for making the girls look amazing. They ordered full hair and make-up to run alongside the headpiece making workshop. If you would like this service please email us at Glam Hatters for all the info.
The girls had the choice of making Gatsby inspired headpieces, necklaces or fascinators during their workshop. The hen below made a gorgeous pearl headpiece attached with silk ribbons. Emily made a pearl necklace stitched to a felt collar attached by silk ribbons.
The girls who made necklaces brought headpieces with them and matched the necklaces to the hats using our extensive range of crystals, beads and sequins. Lots of hens match their necklaces to the hats they wear to the wedding or match their fascinators and headpieces to their wedding outfits. Giving hens the added bonus of not having to trawl the high street for matching wedding hats! Make your own fascinator and you can match colours exactly.Emily’s group brought bubbly with them and ordered a Glam Hatters’ mini cream tea which they were served on vintage china during the half time break and it kept them going till dinner. They then headed from our venue in Exmouth Market straight to The Candle Light Club for dinner and dancing. Emily made the front page of The Candle Light Club’s Summer Ball pictures with their fabulous accessories and gorgeous outfits.Glam Hatters highly recommend The Candle Light Club, it’s super stylish, incredibly extravagant and as you can see in the picture of Emily below it’s a lot of fun.
If you would like check out The Candle Light Club and need fabulous accessories to adorn yourself with but don’t have a hen party coming up why not join our Glam hatters’ workshop on the 19th of July? You will enjoy a 3 hour Gatsby workshop with full afternoon tea. Quote “blogtastic” on your email and we will charge you £49 pp instead of £73. Make a fabulous headpiece, meet new friends and enjoy afternoon tea – sounds like the prefect Sunday to me!

Vintage-Inspired Wedding Shoes, wear them to the wedding, then wear them with your jeans!
Lately whenever I ask the bride- to-be at our hen party workshops what they have left to organise for their wedding 9 times out of 10 it’s their shoes. And what then comes up is how hard it is to find lovely vintage looking shoes that don’t cost the earth. Furthermore, they would quite like to be able to wear them after the wedding, with a pair of jeans for a night out.
For me a good blog post is a reoccurring question that I am asked as someone in the know in the wedding industry. Therefore in this post I have made it my mission to find some beautiful vintage looking wedding shoes with an affordable price tag! In order to do this I have forgone the designer streets – Mount Street I haven’t seen you in a while! Instead I’ve trawled the Internet to find you the best, most affordable vintage style shoes – wear them to your wedding or to a Gatsby inspired night out (for more on Gatsby Inspired activities click here.)
Monsoon Wedding Shoe Collection
I shop at Monsoon from time to time and I’m always surprised at how good it is. I’ve had a few cool little jackets from Monsoon and the prints are always kind of different and interesting, plus they look good with my actual vintage dresses!
Monsoon have a new collection of wedding shoes and there are at least 3 pairs that I would buy myself but these are my favourite, they come in nude or Ivory and have a ditsy flowery lining which is cute.
I’m really into the nude colour over the Ivory as it smacks vintage and is less trad bridal which is why I really like them. Also There’s more chance of wearing them after the wedding with a red vintage dress, victory rolls and some striking lippy. These cost £89 and are available online and instore.
I’ve also checked out Monsoon in-store. This is me (below) having a lovely time in amongst the racks of shoes. Excuse the serious face, I was trying to use my new i-phone, or i-brick as I’ve taken to calling it – does have a great camera etc but doesn’t fit into my pockets. You gotta take the rough with the smooth!
Girls Of Elegance Shoes
Guys do not be put off by their website, here’s a head up, it’s not very pretty and does not by any stretch of the imagination shout (or even whisper) stylish wedding shoes. However they have a vintage shoe category and they have some real gems in that section. I saw 6 pairs in this section (it’s huge) that I would love to wear. Ranging from peep toes to Mary Jane’s, they have some gorgeous designs. These are my absolute favourite and they are by Freed of London, cost £85 are peach and silver and are made of leather. They look like cool wedding shoes or fabulous dancing shoes. Like I say the website is not great but they do have some great styles on there – go take a look and let me know what you think.
Rainbow Club Wedding Shoes
These guys are proper old school wedding shoe suppliers, and they will dye your choice of shoe to order. Brilliant if you want to go for it with your colour tones. The site shows a million ivory, satin shoes, so you have to use your imagination – surely there must be an app out there that will show them in your colour way?! These very simple, stylish lace peep toe shoes are my favourite. I’d love them in navy. The price tag comes in at £175 plus £25 to have them dyed to order.
They also sell shoe clips, which is a great way of dressing up a pair of your own favourite shoes to look more vintage – you could always use them on your hat for a different occasion. They’d be great for anchoring a bird cage veil to a fascinator which could then be un-clipped for the evening do.
Light In The Box Wedding Shoes.
Any one that knows me knows that although I’m a stylish kind of woman (Saint Martin’s Fashion graduate, sold my own millinery collections across the globe at London and Paris Fashion Week etc) Every now and again I turn into a 4 year old girl and glitter addict. I like to give her a bit of freedom and to listen (embrace her) when she likes something. These shoes are AMAZING!!! Seriously I love them, someone took a sugar pink 1970’s swimming cap and rolled it in a vat of pink Swarovski fairy dust and this is the result. Fab-u-lous. Team these with a gorgeous Candy Anthony dress and the look would be stylish, witty and fun.
Again the Light In The Box website is far from aesthetically pleasing, shopping on it is not the most user friendly (“wait, hang on, which is the link to the shoes?!”) but the payoff is that these shoes are priced at £36.49. (How did they even get to that number – oh I see – because there’s 51% off the original price!)
Try out their website, I dare you to find a crazier more gorgeous pair of shoes than these. By the way, they do have some shoes that fit the brief of this post, take a look at these…
Lovely, gold, sparkly, vintagy, not too high, round toed Mary Jane’s and cost £35.03(!)
Rachel Simpson Vintage Inspired Wedding Shoes.
So here’s the high end designer part of the blog! Rachel is the queen of designer vintage inspired wedding shoes and she has an innovative way to decide which shoes you should wear to your wedding, take her shoe quiz below.
Personally my favourite Rachel Simpson wedding shoes are these beautiful forget-me-knot blue leather shoes.
These perfect shoes come in at £170 and for that you are investing in fantastic craftsmanship. These beautiful designer t-bar peep toe shoes are incredibly good value. Rachel Simpson is an award winning shoe designer and her speciality is vintage inspired wedding shoes. And they are oh so, so lovely. What are you waiting for – go check out her gorgeous website and her stunning shoes…
Aston Atelier Hand Painted Wedding Shoes.
Once you’ve decided on your perfect pair of shoes pop over to Ashton Atelier on Etsy and have the soles hand painted with your names and the date of the wedding. You can even send a colour swatch and they will match it for the colour of the soles. (They also do all the Disney characters, so if Cinders and Prince Charming are your thing, why not have one on each sole?!)
Lana’s Shop, have a picture of your wedding shoes painted.
I guess you can tell by now that I really love shoes (this is probably the longest blog post I’ve ever written!). When I buy a new pair of shoes I like to keep them on the mantle piece for a few days just to look at them. Take this idea one step further and have your wedding shoes painted on canvas as a beautiful keepsake of your wedding day. Pop over to Lana’s Etsy shop for all the details on how to do this. Her style is gorgeous as you can see from the illustrations at the beginning of this post. Here’s a larger view of one of her shoe paintings.
I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have any tips for buying new vintage-inspired wedding shoes with an affordable price tag please do leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
